New Strasburg mayor promises continued progress

| January 4, 2024

STRASBURG (WJER) (Jan. 4, 2023) – It’s a time of transition for the village, which is starting the year under new leadership.

Bruce Metzger was sworn in as Strasburg’s mayor Tuesday and presided over the council meeting that evening.

“I want everyone to know that I’m here to serve the community. Council and I will meet tonight for the first time as a group. There are some things we need to at some time review and address.”

The former longtime councilman and retired volunteer firefighter ousted incumbent Steve Smith in the November 7th election. He says he’s grateful for the support and committed to keeping the village moving in a positive direction.

“Moving forward, we will work as a team. Every council member will be a voice, and the community members are encouraged to talk to your council members about your concerns and questions. And I’m asking the community to not only voice your concerns, but you are also asked to offer suggestions and solutions to the concerns, as well.”

On council, Wes Halter replaced Don Wallick, who didn’t run for re-election, and Marty Zehnder is now president. Metzger got the deciding vote because of a tie and picked Zehnder over former council president Jeff Smith.
