North Ridgeville woman dies from injuries in September crash in Tuscarawas County

| October 8, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 8, 2025) – The State Highway Patrol New Philadelphia post says a passenger has now died from injuries sustained in a crash last month on I-77 south of Stone Creek.

The Stark County Coroner’s Office reported that 81-year-old Naoma Mckinney of North Ridgeville was pronounced deceased at a Canton hospital Tuesday due to injuries sustained from the September 26th crash .

She was a front seat passenger in a southbound SUV driven by her husband, 80-year-old Leonard McKinney Jr., that went off the road, overturned, and struck a guardrail at approximately 11:15 that morning in Jefferson Township.

Leonard told troopers he fell asleep while driving. He was wearing a seatbelt and was also taken to a Canton hospital for his injuries following the crash.

Troopers say Naoma McKinney was not wearing a seat belt.
