NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 18, 2022) – Two school administrators got to model good sportsmanship ahead of the Quakers’ 119th rivalry matchup with the Crimson Tornadoes.

New Phila high-schoolers have been competing with their counterparts in Dover to see who could collect the most socks for Friends of the Homeless. Assistant Principal Taylor Logothetides announced the results during Monday’s school board meeting.

“Unfortunately for ourselves but fortunately for the Tuscarawas County Friends of the Homeless, the team across the river raised 1,740 pairs of socks, and we were able to raise 1,558 pairs of socks and an additional $240 to donate.”

Longthetides and Principal Trista Claxton agreed to get pied in the face if their students lost, a punishment they let school board members dole out during the meeting.

Students in both districts have also been participating in decorating contests and daily dress-up days leading up to Friday’s game. Tip-off is a 7 pm from Quaker Stadium and on WJER.
