ODOT: Route 39 to reopen later this week

| August 20, 2024

DOVER (WJER) (August 20, 2024) – State Route 39 between Dover and Sugarcreek should be open by the end of the week, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Spokesperson Lauren Borell says recent weather delayed the roadwork’s completion past Wednesday’s 45-day target date.

She anticipates the road reopening later in the week, but she did not have an exact date.

Route 39 has been closed since July 8, cutting off a popular route between I- 77 and Sugarcreek’s businesses and tourist attractions. Borell says about 10,000 cars a day go through there. She says the road near the entrance of the Kimble Company facility needed safety improvements.

“This is a vital artery to the area from tourism to residents, so it’s very important that we get this road back open,” Borell said, “but especially we’ve appreciated everyone’s patience through this as we are working to improve safety along this route.”

In addition to scaling down the hill there to improve sight distance, crews also lengthened the turning lane and widened the road to accommodate trucks entering and exiting the Kimble facility. Crews also added new curbing to help with drainage.
