ODOT tree-trimming operations impacting more routes

| February 10, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Feb. 10, 2024) – Drivers may be noticing more crews out on ODOT-maintained roads trimming trees this time of year.

District 11 spokeswoman Lauren Borell says ODOT is usually only permitted to have the work performed between October and March due to environmental purposes.

She says the additional sunlight created by trimming the canopy over roads improves visibility for drivers and helps melt ice and snow faster.

Tree trimming has had I-77 north down to one lane near the northern end of Tuscarawas County in recent days and it’s also closing about a mile of state Route 800 south of Freeport in Harrison County – weather permitting – from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays through Friday, February 21st.
