| July 21, 2022

TUSCARAWAS COUNTY (WJER) (July 21, 2022) – Area law enforcement officers ended up chasing after two drivers in stolen cars Wednesday morning.

The first was the suspect in an aggravated menacing investigation who sped off when a Uhrichsville patrolman tried to stop him on Jaycee Drive around 12:45 am. Officers from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office and Highway Patrol joined in the pursuit that ended when the Lincoln MKZ hit spike strips and came to a stop on Packer Street. The 19-year-old driver was arrested on a felony warrant after a short foot chase.

Then about seven hours later, Dover Police found a vehicle stolen out of Canton in the Hennis Care Center parking lot, chasing it along Wooster Avenue and onto I-77 before ending the pursuit. A sheriff’s sergeant spotted the same car minutes later on Sandyville Road in New Zoarville, leading to another chase. Charges are pending against the driver, a 24-year-old Canton man, who reportedly rammed the stolen car into the sergeant’s cruiser before abandoning it and fleeing on foot. He was taken by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital to get checked out before being booked into the county jail.

The MKZ in the first chase was a rental a New Philadelphia man reported stolen later that morning.
