Opinions on presidential race mixed in Dover, New Phila
DOVER (WJER) (Nov. 5, 2024) – Local voters have been sharing their thoughts on this election.
We talked with Shirley Porter and her daughter Scarlett, a first-time voter, outside of their polling location at Dover Alliance Church.
“It feels great, and my other daughter, she’s in there voting for the first time also. I’m very proud of them.”
They were planning an election watch party that night to root for the former president.
“Let’s go Trump!”
New Philadelphia resident Faye Breehl was hoping for a different outcome.
“I’m totally for Kamala. I don’t like Trump and never did and that’s just the way it is. I never liked him when he was on that dumb show of his.”
Breehl voted at Tuscora Park with her cousin Alice Shade, who says she went with Donald Trump because America could benefit from some order and ‘Godly values.’
“We don’t agree but she’s still my friend and I still love her.”
Despite their differing political views, the two women were both in favor of Issue 8: the $72-million bond issue to consolidate and modernize the New Philadelphia school system.
“Even though we don’t have children in the school system, we still have to support the children.”
Polling locations remain open until 7:30 in the evening so if you haven’t yet voted in this election, it’s not too late. Listen to WJER tonight for results updates.
