Patrol Reports Busy, Safe Labor Day Weekend
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 9, 2026) – The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says it had a busy but successful Labor Day weekend. Post Commander Lt. Bryan Sponaugle says troopers issued 394 citations from Friday through Monday, mostly for speeding, distracted driving, and seat‑belt violations.
Sponaugle says troopers handled 18 crashes across Tuscarawas and Carroll counties. None were fatal, and five involved minor injuries.
He says the good weather and strong visibility on major roadways helped keep serious crashes down.
The Post also made five OVI arrests. Two were felonies — one because the driver had multiple prior OVI convictions, making their vehicle subject to forfeiture, and the other because the suspect had a loaded firearm.
