Pets to be relocated following fire at ‘deplorable’ house-turned-kennel

| February 28, 2025

DENNISON (WJER) (Feb. 28, 2025)  –  Fire Chief Dave McConnell says he’s working with the Humane Society to find a safe environment for close to a dozen pets rescued from a Mill Township house in “deplorable” condition that caught fire Wednesday.

This was in the 6800 block of Wardell Hollow Road Southeast. Fire damage was mostly contained to one room.

McConnell says the owner claimed he was checking on the pets daily, even though he had moved out a year ago and was now using the place as a kennel.

Nine dogs were rescued, along with a couple of cats.

The owner couldn’t exactly say how many pets were living there, though it didn’t appear any died in the fire.

McConnell says the cause of the fire was possibly electrical but still under investigation.  He declined to comment on whether charges could be possible.
