Pickup truck driver cited after crashing into Dover school bus

| March 9, 2022

DOVER (WJER) (March 9, 2022) – Nobody was hurt when a pickup truck ran a stop sign and crashed into the side of a Dover school bus around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The State Highway Patrol reports the pickup truck driver, a 33-year-old man from Dover, was cited for failing to stop at the sign.

Dover Schools Superintendent Karie McCrate says the district is still assessing the damage to the school bus, but there were enough buses to get everybody to school today.

McCrate in a press release said bus No. 10 was driving east on state Route 516 and the pickup was heading north on Broad Run Dairy Road.

Dover Fire Capt. Mike Mosser says the pickup was heavily damaged. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

McCrate says the nine students on the bus were coming from the Winfield area. They were either brought to school or returned home.

“We are grateful for the calm, skilled response of our bus driver and transportation team this morning,” McCrate said.

Mosser says 516 was closed for about two hours as crews cleaned up.
