Pinwheel display highlights Child Abuse Prevention Month in Tuscarawas County
NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (WJER) (March 30, 2026) — Community leaders are drawing attention to child safety this April as blue and silver pinwheels once again line the steps of the Tuscarawas County Courthouse in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The annual display, organized by Noah’s Hope Child Advocacy Center in partnership with Tuscarawas County Job and Family Services, features roughly 1,500 pinwheels. According to Noah’s Hope Director Mandy Willet, each pinwheel represents a child in Tuscarawas County who was reportedly abused or maltreated in 2025.
Willet said the visual reminder underscores the importance of reporting concerns and taking action when a child’s safety may be at risk.
Noah’s Hope served 232 child victims last year, providing a safe, child‑focused setting where children can speak with trained professionals and be connected to needed treatment services. That figure represents an increase of more than 14 percent compared to the previous year.
Willet attributed part of that increase to the organization’s expansion into Coshocton County, which does not have its own child advocacy center.
Meanwhile, Tuscarawas County Job and Family Services received more than 1,700 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect in 2025. Those reports led to 321 formal investigations.
As part of Child Abuse Prevention Month, Noah’s Hope will also host its third annual Charity Gala on April 11. The event will include the presentation of the organization’s “Voice for All Children” Award, recognizing individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to advocating for children’s well‑being.
