Pohovey to become New Philadelphia’s first female chief of police
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (June 6, 2023) – The city of New Philadelphia has its next police chief lined up.
The city announced this morning that Captain Tessa Pohovey scored the highest out of four candidates on the civil service exam and is set to become the first woman to serve as the city’s police chief beginning July 7th.
That’s when current Chief Mike Goodwin retires after 33 years of service with the department, including the last 10 as chief.
In corresponding moves, Sgt. Dave Morris is being promoted to captain and Patrolman Wayne Clark is moving up to sergeant.
