DOVER (September 27, 2024) – Police Thursday arrested a man suspected of breaking into several vehicles overnight in a Dover neighborhood and wanted on several warrants out of New Philadelphia for trespassing and theft.

Dale A. Doughty Jr., 29, is in the Tuscarawas County Jail after police arrested him at Speedway next to KFC on Tuscarawas Avenue just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to Dover police records, a caller reported seeing the man breaking into neighbor’s vehicles on West 9th Street.

Dover police say the suspect punched a neighbor who confronted him and fled to the gas station where police arrested him.

There were at least four other reports of vehicles being broken into the night before in the same neighborhood.

Dover police say charges against Doughty could include assault and robbery in addition to theft, breaking and entering, and receiving stolen property.

He was already wanted by New Philadelphia Police for at least seven cases of theft and trespassing.

New Philadelphia Police say Doughty was a repeat shoplifting offender from stores including Dollar General and Walmart. They had issued seven warrants for Doughty’s arrest when he failed to show up to several court dates.
