Police Confirm 42-Year-Old Man Died After New Philadelphia Shooting
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 21, 2026) — Police are still releasing limited details about a Sunday afternoon shooting in the 200 block of Second Street Southwest.
Chief Tessa Pohovey confirms one person has died — 42‑year‑old Christopher Damron — after the shooting inside his home just after 4 p.m. Pohovey says officers immediately began providing aid to Damron until firefighters arrived, while another man at the scene was detained without incident. She says both men were taken to the hospital; both were injured, but only one had been shot.
Pohovey isn’t commenting on a possible motive, only saying it was an altercation between two individuals who knew each other.
She says the suspect’s name will be released once he is formally charged in court, likely on Tuesday.
