NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (July 6, 2022) – City officials have been finding new uses for the police department’s decommissioned cruisers.

Mayor Joel Day says one is now a courtesy vehicle pilots flying into Harry Clever Field can use to tour the area.

“There are more planes flying into Harry Clever Field. I don’t know if you’ve noticed that, but they have been flying in because of the fixed-base operator ProAv’s avionics business and also because of the popularity of Miller’s Creamery stand and Maggoo’s Restaurant.”

He says that’s not the only repurposed cruiser you might see around town.

“Earlier this year another used cruiser was repurposed for use by the Fire Department’s Community Outreach Coordinator.”

City officials could also soon be selling off or repurposing one of the department’s K9 vehicles. Council is considering the safety director’s request to buy a new cruiser for Chief Mike Goodwin drives, whose current one would replace the older of the two K9 vehicles.
