Police investigating hit-skip incidents; one arrest made
DOVER – Police say a drunk driver ran a red light and caused a 4-vehicle crash in New Philadelphia before fleeing the scene. Police found him about 20 minutes later sleeping in his vehicle in Dover. The crash happened just after 7 a.m. Sunday at West High and Tuscarawas Avenue. No injuries were reported. Witnesses said a white vehicle with heavy front damage left the scene toward Dover. Dover Police found the car in the 200 block of West 7th Street with the driver passed out inside. The 26-year-old Dover resident is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday on misdemeanor charges of hit/skip, OVI and running a red light.
Meanwhile, police are still looking for two other drivers who fled crash scenes in Dover this past Friday. At about 4:30 a.m., police say a black Ford Mustang crashed at a dead end on East 3rd Street and the driver fled on foot. The sheriff’s K-9 tried to track the suspect but lost the trail near East Elementary School. The Mustang was in bad shape, and the driver likely injured, but officials had no update on the case Monday afternoon. Later on Friday around 6:30 p.m., a caller reported a large white truck struck a parked car on East Front Street, causing it to crash into other vehicles. The white truck left the scene and police are still investigating to see if there were any cameras in the area.
