Police: Student made up threat that led to school lockdowns

| November 14, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (November 14, 2024) – The lockdowns at Buckeye Career Center and Strasburg schools on Tuesday were based on what turned out to be a hoax.

New Philadelphia Police Captain Rocky Dusenberry says on Tuesday morning an 18-year-old student told school and law enforcement officials that his estranged father sent him an email threatening to shoot up Buckeye Career Center.

After interviewing the father and son and working with the Buckeye IT department, Dusenberry determined the student sent the email to himself because he was upset with his father.

Dusenberry says police will forward the report to the prosecutor who could pursue charges, including inducing panic. That could reach felony level because it happened at a school, but Dusenberry says there are many factors to consider.
