Project Hope returning to promote addiction recovery services

| August 22, 2023

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Aug. 22, 2023) – Tuscarawas County leaders have been showing their support for local substance use recovery efforts.

The commissioners on Monday issued two county-wide proclamations – one declaring Thursday, August 31st, National Overdose Awareness Day and the other acknowledging National Recovery Month in September. Advocates including Empower Tusc Coordinator Jodi Salvo requested the declarations to promote the third installment of Project Hope, the initiative that places wooden silhouettes around the community to draw attention to local addiction recovery resources.

“We have amazingly supportive county commissioners that care about this issue, care about mental health and addiction in Tuscarawas County, and are committed to being part of the solution.”

Commissioner Kristen Zemis enjoyed learning more about the project that kicks off next Wednesday at 6:30 pm with a ceremony on the plaza in front of the county courthouse.

“Also, I feel very proud of those individuals who work tirelessly to remove the stigma from addiction and recovery to show others that recovery is possible, that hope is always an option.”

Local recovery coach Eric Fredrickson is the featured speaker for next week’s Project Hope kickoff that will move to Legacy Church in the event of inclement weather.
