‘Pugglepalooza’ next step in recovery for dogs rescued from ‘deplorable’ conditions
NEW PHILADELPHIA – Almost two months after 32 dogs were rescued from deplorable conditions, the Tuscarawas County Humane Society is ready to offer them up for adoption.
Shelter Director Haley Predragovich says a Sandyville home was in “absolutely deplorable” conditions on July 14th when the Humane Society rescued 32 dogs, mostly puggles – a pug and beagle mix – from the property. She says she can’t be too specific with details as animal cruelty charges are likely pending.
Predragovich says the dogs had numerous health problems, including fleas, anemia and eye issues. She praised her staff and volunteers for caring for the animals and getting them ready for adoption.
To facilitate adoption, the Humane Society will host a “Pugglepalooza” event on Saturday from 1 to 4 at the Shelter on Tall Timber Road in New Philadelphia.
The event will double as a shelter open house, with cupcakes, coloring pages for kids and free leashes and collars for those who adopt a puggle.
The Humane Society could also use donations of canned dog food, cleaning supplies, and especially scoopable cat litter.
In addition to over 50 dogs, the shelter is overrun with all-time high of about 80 cats and kittens. Anyone interested in adopting an animal should fill out an application form before the event at the shelter or online at tuschumanesociety.com.
