Report: pickup truck engine probably started storage building fire

| July 24, 2025

UNION TWP.  (WJER) (July 24, 2025) – There’s more information on a Tuesday afternoon fire that destroyed a storage building in the 1700 block of Roxford Church Road Southeast.

A Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office call report indicates Arrowhead Joint Fire District Chief Steven Wright has the cause of the fire listed as undetermined due to all the damage.

But he says it is believed the fire probably started within the engine compartment of a pickup truck that was inside the storage building and last in use shortly before the fire was discovered.

Dennison Fire Chief Dave McConnell said his department was the first on scene Tuesday afternoon and the pole building was already fully involved. He says some firefighters stayed there close to four hours.

McConnell says the fire also caused some heat damage to the siding of a home about 20 feet away from the storage building.

No total damage estimate was immediately available.

The sheriff’s report shows there was nothing suspicious about the origins found during the investigation.
