Republicans pick new Tuscarawas County prosecutor

| March 19, 2026

Scott Deedrick speaks to the Tuscarawas County Republican Central Committee at a Thursday meeting where he was named the county prosecutor.

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Tuscarawas County Republican Central Committee has selected Scott Deedrick as the new county prosecutor.

Deedrick was assistant county prosecutor when the county commissioners appointed him acting prosecutor in February. He replaces Ryan Styer, who left the position to become a judge.

The committee voted 18-5 in favor of Deedrick over attorney and former State Rep. Brett Hillyer. Hillyer is also running for county auditor but he would have left that race had he been appointed.

Deedrick will finish out the year as county prosecutor. The committee also picked him to appear on the November ballot to run for a term that ends in 2028.

At the same meeting, the committee confirmed Styer as the Republican candidate to appear on the November ballot in the Common Pleas Court Judge race.
