Roadwork ramps up in July

| July 11, 2025

DOVER – Roadwork is picking up over the next couple of weeks.

Tuscarawas County, ODOT and the city of Dover have all sent out notices for projects starting soon.

The county engineer’s office says the latest Dover Zoar Road closing will be east of the Dover city limit starting July 21 through Aug. 15. Assistant County Engineer Genaro DeMonte says the culvert replacement is the next step in the $2.7 million road-widening project funded mainly by a federal grant.

Dover this week announced workers there will start paving nine roads on the city’s south side on Monday, with more to come.

The roads are: Monroe Street (from city corporation limit to Shafer Avenue), Madison Street, South McKinley Street, Grant Street, South James Street, Reeves Avenue, Prospect Street , East Wills Avenue and South Avenue (Prospect Street to Union Avenue).

In New Philadelphia, in addition to paving, Service Director Ron McAbier says progress has continued this summer on several significant projects, including gas line replacement work on the city’s south side that is expected to last into November.

ODOT will soon start prep work on a 5-mile stretch of U.S. 36 from Port Washington to Newcomerstown. That road is expected to be closed for about two weeks starting July 28 for culvert replacements.

ODOT’s 250 project at McCauley Drive in Uhrichsville is expected to continue into October.

ODOT also has state Route 212 closed east of Zoar for culvert work for the next few weeks and lane restrictions on the Schoen Brunn Drive bridge over the Tuscarawas River through October.

Meanwhile, ODOT’s sidewalk project continues in Sugarcreek through the fall.
