Run for Home race weekend a success for another year
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 8, 2024) – Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Run for Home race weekend is a wrap for another year. Race Director Matt Ritzert was very pleased with how it went for the Family Day races Saturday and the half marathon and team relay Sunday morning from Tuscora Park.
“I thought it was a really good weekend, we got great cooperation from the weather,” said Ritzert.
More runners took part, too.
“Participation was up this year, registration was up by 15 or 20 percent over last year, which is fantastic,” he said.
The winner for the men in Sunday’s half marathon was Israel Merkle of Akron with a time of about 1 hour 13 minutes. Emily Shaub of North Canton won it for the women, finishing in just over 1 hour 30 minutes.
“No course records were broken, but we had some very good times spread throughout the race,” said Ritzert .
Ritzert says it will still take a while to tally proceeds from the weekend, which again will benefit Habitat for Humanity projects in Tuscarawas County.
