Ruth Miller’s murder trial set for March following competency ruling

| November 26, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 26, 2025) – The Millersburg woman facing murder and other charges for her four-year-old son’s Atwood Lake drowning death in August has been found competent to stand trial.

Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Ernest made the ruling Tuesday based on a psychologist’s evaluation of 40-year-old Ruth Miller from last month.

Sheriff’s officials said Miller had been experiencing spiritual delusions the weekend her son died.

Ernest also scheduled Miller’s trial to begin March 4th.

Miller previously pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Tuscarawas County Prosecutor Ryan Styer says that doesn’t change.

Miller remains in the Tuscarawas County Jail.
