Seasonal food market returning to downtown Uhrichsville
UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (June 13, 2024) – The Uhrichsville Farmers Market is back for its second season.
It kicks off Friday along Third Street downtown. Board President Whitney Manson says they’re excited to welcome everyone back to the bi-weekly market, which has a few more vendors and now includes an educational component.
“So at every market, we will have a class. The classes are done by one of our vendors, and then a handful of markets will have demos either done by a community partner or another one of our vendors.”
The market takes place on the second and fourth Friday of each month through October from 5 to 8 pm.
“When we started the farmers market, we decided we would do the second and fourth Friday because we didn’t know what to expect and we’re business owners and we all have small kids. So that was July, August, September, and then we decided to expand it to June through October to see if that will work out. Our goal is to eventually be every week. We’re just trying to build up to that.”
Manson says they’ve also been working to break down the barriers preventing some from taking advantage of the market, which is now a SNAP retailer and will soon be able to accept WIC coupons.
“It’s very much ran like Tuscarawas Valley Farmers Market. We run the card. They tell us the amount of money they would like to have off of it. We hand them tokens, and then they use the tokens to shop at the vendors. It has worked really well for Tuscarawas Valley, and it’s something I’ve admired for years.”
The food trucks for opening day are Gio’s Pizza Lab, Rolling Refreshments, and TCBBQ. Nick Bonner will perform, and Angel Family Farms is hosting a class called the ‘Importance of Pastured Meats.’
