NEWCOMERSTOWN (WJER) (Dec. 26, 2022) – The holiday weekend ended tragically for a Newcomerstown family whose home caught on fire early Monday morning.

The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the bodies of six people were recovered from the home in the 400 block of Spaulding Avenue but isn’t identifying them publicly until authorities notify their next of kin.

Firefighters were called to the home just after 1:30 am and remained there combing through the debris until late Monday afternoon. The Newcomerstown Fire Department led the response with assistance from Stone Creek and West Lafayette along with the Three Rivers, Delaware Valley, and Arrowhead fire districts. No word yet on what might have caused the blaze, which remains under investigation. The state fire marshal’s office is involved but hasn’t released any information.
