Sixth mosquito sample tests positive for West Nile in Tuscarawas County

| August 14, 2024

DOVER (WJER) (Aug. 14, 2024) – The Tuscarawas County Health Department says it has been notified about a mosquito sample testing positive for West Nile virus for the sixth time now this summer.

The most recent positive sample was collected July 30th in the 200 block of Jefferson Street In Stone Creek.  Health officials plan to spray around that area Thursday night from 8 to 10 p.m.

The health department again reminds us that eight out of 10 people infected with West Nile do not develop any symptoms. Those who do, however, can experience a fever, headache, body aches, chills, joint pains, vomiting, or a rash.

Health officials are still encouraging residents to use insect repellent and to wear long sleeves and pants outdoors when weather permits, especially from dusk to dawn. They also suggest emptying standing water around your home.
