Slick roads result in numerous crashes Sunday

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Feb. 17. 2024) – The wintry weather caused problems for drivers on area roads over the weekend.
Sgt. Jennifer Makris at the New Philadelphia patrol post says troopers there handled about eight weather-related crashes Sunday along with additional calls for vehicles sliding off roads in Tuscarawas County.
No major injuries were reported.
One person was thrown from their vehicle in a crash that happened on I-77 north near Stone Creek Sunday around 2:30 p.m. All three occupants of that car were taken to hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers also handled a couple of non-weather crashes earlier in the weekend.
Makris says a vehicle rear-ended another one on Dover-Zoar Road Saturday around 5:30 p.m. A passenger was taken to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital with minor injuries.
Troopers also arrested a man for suspected OVI after his vehicle went off Sandy Hill Road, struck some bushes, hit a utility pole, and ended up in a ditch Sunday at about 3 a.m. That man was not injured.
