Soap Box Derby Spring Rally returns to Wabash this weekend

| April 29, 2022

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 29, 2022) – The Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby Spring Rally is scheduled for this weekend.

It’s back at Wabash Avenue beside Quaker Stadium in New Philadelphia, so watch out for road closings there from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Races are expected to start around 9 a.m. each day.

Event director Tim Hiller says families should bring their elementary and middle school age kids over to check it out. They can talk to local race organizers to find out how to compete in the local Soap Box Derby race in June. Winners at that race qualifying for the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron.

This weekend’s event is part of a rally series. Drivers are trying to collect enough points to qualify for that big Akron race in July. Hiller says it attracts close to 50 racers from Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York.
