The Dover girls soccer team kicked off its season with a 7-1 home victory over Fairless Saturday. Carley Noretto scored four goals for the Crimson Tornadoes. Abby Jones, Ansley Bollon, and Cashlyn Harmon also scored. Goalie Elizabeth Lane had three saves.

Dover heads to St. Clairsville on Tuesday night for the team’s second match of the season.

From Coach James Kline:

This past Saturday, the Dover Tornadoes kicked off our season at home against the Fairless Falcons. We return a lot of players this year, but many of them are now in starting roles after graduating eleven seniors.

There were definitely some nerves going into the game with it being our first match, but we settled in after about five minutes into the game.

After getting through the first five minutes, we were able to start connecting some passes to work the ball down the field to create dangerous opportunities.

In the first half, we earned a lot of corners. Those corners were important because that’s where our first and third goals came from.

The first came when Carley Noretto beat the keeper to a rebound to put us up 1-0.

We continued to control the tempo of the game and worked to earn corners and shots. We earned seven corners and 25 shots in the first half of the game. However, it took us a while after our first goal to find another.

Abby Jones beat the keeper to the ball on a through ball and had a nice finish for her first goal of the season.

Then, with about five minutes left in the first half off another corner, Carley Noretto had an unbelievable strike for her second goal of the game.

The second half was much of the same. We talked at half about continuing to work the ball down the flanks which would create a lot of opportunities for us to score. That it did, we were able to find four more goals in the half.

The first came again from Carley Noretto off a great cross from Lauren Grafe.

Next, Ansley Bollon scored her first goal of the season off some hard work which led to her redirecting a ball from the keeper into the box which she ran onto for our fifth goal of the game.

Carley Noretto scored her fourth goal and the team’s sixth of the game off a nice pass from Belen Bravo-Angel.

Lastly, with nine minutes left, Peyton Grafe won the ball and played a ball over the back line where Cashlyn Harmon ran onto it, took a touch, and buried it past the keeper for her first and team’s seventh goal of the game.

Elizabeth Lane was in goal and had three saves in the win.
