Strong Winds Knock Out Power Across Dover and Tuscarawas County
DOVER (WJER) (Sept. 4, 2026) – Power outages caused by Thursday night’s strong winds affected parts of Dover and communities across Tuscarawas County.
In Dover, Mayor Shane Gunnoe says a large tree split during the storm and fell onto a power feed line serving the city’s east side. Several utility poles were also snapped.
At one point, about 20 percent of Dover was without power. Service was restored around 1:12 this morning, after an outage lasting about five hours and 45 minutes.
American Electric Power was still reporting a small number of customers without power this morning — about a dozen in the Strasburg area, roughly the same number in New Philadelphia, and a handful of other outages elsewhere in the county.
Crews were continuing to assess storm damage. No estimated restoration time was immediately available for those remaining outages.
