Sunday afternoon fire destroys Dundee area home

| May 20, 2024

DUNDEE (WJER) (May 20, 2024) – Wayne Township firefighters say a Dundee area trailer home is a total loss following a weekend fire.

Nobody was injured.

The fire was in the 7900 block of state Route 516 NW and called in to 9-1-1 just before 4:15 p.m.

Fire Chief Josh Yoder says the fire originally involved an attached carport. He says a resident there told firefighters he had been working on a tractor that leaked gas, which apparently ignited from a spark when he started another engine.

The flames from there spread to the home’s roof, which eventually collapsed.

Yoder says other departments that responded include Dover, Bolivar, Baltic, and Sugarcreek – with eight tankers in all since there are no hydrants in that area.

Some firefighters remained on scene about four and a half hours.
