| March 31, 2026

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office released this photo of Michael Decker, 53, while asking for the public’s help in locating him on March 30. Authorities said Decker was considered armed and dangerous with a violent history.

CADIZ (WJER) (March 31, 2025) – Harrison County Sheriff’s officials have confirmed the suspect in a multi‑agency pursuit and manhunt has died following an officer‑involved shooting Monday evening.

Authorities say the incident began during a routine traffic stop on U.S. Route 250 near Eslick Road in Franklin Township. During an exchange of gunfire, the driver, 53‑year‑old Michael Decker, fled in the vehicle.

Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted in a pursuit. A tire deflation device was used on U.S. Route 22 near Hopedale, where investigators say Decker fired several shots at officers, striking a patrol vehicle. No officers were injured.

Decker then ran into a wooded area, prompting a multi‑agency manhunt. He was later found along Mine Road in Green Township. After repeated commands to surrender, a third officer‑involved shooting occurred during an attempted arrest.

Decker later died from his injuries.
All three officer‑involved shootings are under investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
