T4C blanket drive closing in on goal

| November 26, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 26, 2024) – Area nursing home residents will be getting the gift of warmth and comfort this holiday season thanks to a new T4C initiative.

In addition to overseeing the yearly Share-A-Christmas program, the organization has been trying to collect at least 1,000 lap-sized blankets, enough for each individual living in Tuscarawas County’s long-term care facilities. Executive Director Leslie Booth said they were closing in on the goal Monday with a couple of days remaining before the deadline.

“The feedback is wonderful. We’re sitting right now today at 785 blankets right now and we’ve got people calling wanting to know if they can still bring them in. We have a group tomorrow that is going to meet, and they’re going to tie over 100 to 150 blankets so I would say by Wednesday afternoon we will have our goal.”

Any extra blankets will go into the gift baskets T-4-C is preparing for 150 to 200 homebound individuals and couples.

“We are collecting supplies like personal hygiene items, body wash, deodorant, stationary, stamps, laundry soap  – anything like that we can put together in a basket – socks, slippers.”

Blankets can be crocheted, sewed, quilted, or tied but should be at least 3-by-4-feet in size. Those can be dropped off at the T-4-C office through the end of the day Wednesday. Their basket item collection goes until December 10th.
