NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 21, 2026) – The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after three people were found dead inside a Gnadenhutten home early Wednesday morning.

Deputies discovered a 67‑year‑old man, a 51‑year‑old woman, and a 22‑month‑old boy with apparent gunshot wounds at a North Cherry Street residence. Their names have not been released. A gun was recovered at the scene, and Sheriff Orvis Campbell says there’s no indication the community is in danger.

The case began with a 911 hang‑up call around 4:17 a.m. During a callback, dispatchers heard someone softly say “help.” The call couldn’t be traced, but deputies eventually tracked it to the home, where a family member unlocked the door.

The Tuscarawas County Coroner has ordered autopsies. Campbell says investigators still have interviews to conduct and evidence to process, and more information will be released once details are confirmed.
