Toddler in critical condition day after farming accident

| September 11, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (September 11, 2024) – Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s officials say a 2-year-old boy remained in critical condition Wednesday at Akron Children’s Hospital following a farming accident in Dundee the day before.

Detective Captain Adam Fisher says the boy was flown to the hospital following the accident at around 11 a.m. Tuesday in the 8900 block of Cement Bridge Road NW. He says the boy and his brother were in the bucket of a tracked skid steer their mother was operating while doing some gardening.

“When the equipment came to a stop, she located her two-year-old son between the bucket and tracks of that piece of equipment,” Fisher said. “EMS was immediately called.”

Fisher described the injuries.

“It appears that the juvenile had suffered a pretty significant injury to his left arm, some pretty serious kidney injuries and a spleen injury,” he said.

He says it is premature to discuss charges after the accident, but the county prosecutor will review the report.
