Training aims to equip community to support those struggling with addiction
DOVER (WJER) (Feb. 18, 2026) – The Tuscarawas County Health Department has been registering participants for a free virtual training course focused on Responding to Addiction, but officials say space is limited. The online session will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, February 27, offering community members tools and strategies for engaging with individuals who may be struggling with substance use.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Demuth says the course will guide participants in having productive, supportive conversations with someone who may need help, whether that person is a family member, friend, or co‑worker. The training will cover engagement strategies and conversation techniques designed to encourage individuals toward seeking assistance.

Participants will also learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of addiction and receive information on evidence‑based treatment options, recovery support resources, and relapse‑prevention approaches.
The session is free and will be conducted via Zoom, though space is limited to 25 participants. Those interested can learn more about it in a February 11 post on the Tuscarawas County Health Department’s Facebook page.
The Health Department has offered its Responding to Addiction training in person in the past, but this will be its first time presenting the course online.
