Transformer issue caused Friday’s power outage in New Philadelphia

| April 17, 2026

AEP Ohio's website shows the area of Friday afternoon's power outage in New Philadelphia.

NEW PHILADELPHIA – Power was out for nearly 400 customers, including those in the busy Blue Bell Drive business, for about an hour and a half Friday afternoon.

According to AEP officials, “there was a transformer outage in a substation serving the New Philadelphia area. Crews continue to investigate the cause of the outage. All customers were transferred to another source of power, which restored electricity to their homes and businesses, around 3 p.m.”

AEP Ohio’s website indicates power went out at 1:36 p.m. around the 77-250-West High Avenue interchange and extending down Stonecreek Road.
