Troopers call Memorial Day weekend ‘pretty successful’ for OSHP

| May 29, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) – State troopers say they’re overall pleased with how drivers behaved on the roads over the long Memorial Day weekend.

New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Bill Bower says troopers there handled 11 crashes and made four OVI arrests, which is down from last year.

Bower says he believes having troopers visible in higher crash areas such as I-77, SR 800, and SR 39, contributed to the improved weekend numbers.

He says local troopers issued 167 tickets in all Friday through Monday, including five for distracted driving.

Fatal crashes statewide also dropped, from 26 in 2024 to 12 this year.
