Troopers tout success of enforcing distracted driving law

| May 12, 2025

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WTUZ) (May 12, 2025) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is publicizing local enforcement results from Distracted Driving Awareness Month to prove that offenders are getting caught and ticketed.

New Philadelphia Post Commander Lt. Johnnie Maier says his troopers issued 103 citations in April for distracted driving.

Maier says any activity that takes a driver’s eyes off the road is considered a distraction, but troopers mainly focus on cell phones.

So far this year, the State Highway Patrol has seen more than 2,300 distraction-related crashes across Ohio. There have been at least 25 in Tuscarawas County.
