Trout derby, pancake breakfast, chicken BBQ Saturday at Tuscora Park
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov. 1, 2024) – New Philadelphia is creating some new fishing opportunities free for kids this weekend.
Council Member Mitch Pace and Jeff Miller are organizing the city’s first Fall Trout Derby at the Tuscora Park pond Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm.
Pace says what makes this different from the past two spring derbies is they now have stocked the pond with 800 exotic trout including brook, cutbow, tiger, and brown types. He says some brown trout can be close to 10 pounds in size.
“That’s kind of our reason behind it, to see that kids aren’t on their cellphones. They’re out fishing with their parents, grandparents, and siblings to hopefully catch a 10-pound brown trout,” said Pace.
Trophies and gift cards will be awarded to the biggest catches.
There’s also the Kiwanis Club pancake breakfast at the park from 7 to 10 Saturday morning and the Tuscora Park Foundation chicken BBQ from 11 to 1. Both serve as fundraisers for the two organizations.
“You’ll be able to get your pancakes, catch some trout, and pick up a chicken dinner on your way home,” said Pace.
