Truck driver indicted for October fatal hit-and-run crash on I-77

| April 30, 2025

Investigators spent almost two months searching for this truck following a fatal hit-and-run crash in I-77 in October.

NEW PHILADELPHIA – A 59-year-old Cleveland man has been indicted for allegedly causing a fatal crash on I-77 near Strasburg this past fall and then fleeing the scene.

Antonio Wyley is being held in the Tuscarawas County Jail with a $150,000 bond on felony charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, failure to stop after an accident, and tampering with evidence.

Wyley pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday.

The State Highway Patrol says Wyley, driving a red semi-tractor trailer, was attempting to make an illegal U-Turn through a crossover marked “emergency vehicles only” on Oct. 24, 2024.

An SUV driven by Dennis Alsept of Bolivar collided with the semi. Alsept died a week later.

The semi left the scene. It took authorities nearly two months to identify the semi and its driver thanks to surveillance videos and tips from the public.

Wyley was indicted in February, but it took another two months before authorities were able to execute a warrant. He was booked into the Tuscarawas County Jail on April 25.
