Tuscarawas County – America 250 historical timeline display unveiled
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WTUZ) (Feb. 5. 2026) – The Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is inviting residents and visitors to explore a new historical display spotlighting the county’s role in early American history as part of the upcoming America 250 celebrations.
A historical timeline highlighting significant local events has been installed inside the CVB office at 124 East High Avenue in downtown New Philadelphia. The three‑panel exhibit traces Tuscarawas County history, while weaving in key moments from the nation’s past, including the Gnadenhutten Massacre.
CVB Director Dee Grossman says the display illustrates how local history helped shape both Ohio and the country.
“If it weren’t for Tuscarawas County, Ohio wouldn’t be where it is today,” Grossman said. “We were at the forefront of the nation’s beginnings. Fort Laurens is the only Revolutionary War fort in Ohio, and the history of the state and the nation is right here.”
Grossman encourages residents to explore historic sites throughout the county, including Fort Laurens, Schoenbrunn Village, and Gnadenhutten, to gain a deeper understanding of that legacy.
The timeline is one of several initiatives planned for the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The CVB is organizing numerous events throughout the year designed to engage both residents and visitors, including programs focused on the rebuilding of Fort Laurens, special events at Gnadenhutten, performances of Trumpet in the Land, and activities at Schoenbrunn Village.
In addition, the CVB has launched a Tuscarawas County Celebrates America 250 section on its website, traveltusc.com, which will serve as a hub for event listings and historical information. The site includes a dedicated calendar for America 250 events, along with highlights of local attractions.
Planned events include a February 26 program exploring Tuscarawas County’s manufacturing history, a patriotic concert at Garaway High School, and a variety of train‑themed events in Dennison and Sugarcreek.
