Tuscarawas County Confirms Measles Case
DOVER (WJER) (July 30, 2026) – Tuscarawas County health officials have confirmed a case of measles in a county resident. The Tuscarawas County Health Department says the person is recovering at home and the case is likely connected to a previously announced measles exposure at Smokey Lane Stables in Sugarcreek on July 17th.
Health officials are working with the Ohio Department of Health to identify and notify anyone who may have been exposed. Measles is highly contagious and can spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms can include a high fever, cough, runny nose, red watery eyes, and a rash that usually starts on the face and spreads downward.
Anyone who develops a fever and rash, or thinks they may have measles, should stay home and call their healthcare provider before going to a medical office or hospital. The health department says the MMR vaccine remains the best protection against measles.
