Tuscarawas County Health Department Reports Two More Measles Cases
DOVER (WJER) (Aug. 5, 2026) – The Tuscarawas County Health Department is again urging anyone showing signs of measles to take precautions after reporting two more cases involving county residents, bringing the total to three since last week.
Health officials announced the second case Tuesday afternoon, saying the unvaccinated individual was exposed during a previously identified measles exposure event at Smokey Lane Stables on July 17th.
A short time later, the department learned of a third confirmed case. That unvaccinated individual was exposed while attending the Bloomfield Livestock Auction on July 18th.
Officials say all three confirmed cases involve unvaccinated Tuscarawas County residents ranging in age from 15 months to 19 years old. The health department is also awaiting laboratory results on additional suspected measles cases.
Health officials encourage anyone who is not vaccinated against measles to talk with their healthcare provider about getting the MMR vaccine as two doses are about 97-percent effective at preventing the disease.
Measles is highly contagious.
Anyone with symptoms including fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, followed by a rash, should call their healthcare provider before going to a medical facility to help prevent exposing others.
