Tuscarawas County Jail receives ‘rare’ perfect score on state inspection, again

| November 23, 2022

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Nov 23, 2022) – Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell says he’s proud of all the work that has gone into the county jail getting a perfect compliance score on its state inspection for the second year in a row.

Campbell says a division of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction conducts the annual audits on 177 standards that address all operations in the jail.

Those include reception and release, housing, visitation, communication, and medical and mental health services.

He says it’s challenging for a jail to get a perfect inspection once, let alone in back-to-back years.

Campbell says his office strives to keep the jail clean and sanitary so inmates can serve their time in a healthy way.

He gives credit to the staff for updating policies and procedures, along with being well-prepared for the site visits.

This year’s state inspection at the jail occurred over a few days late in the summer.
