Tuscarawas County Ranks Near Top as Turkey Season Ends
COLUMBUS (WJER) (May 29, 2026) – Ohio’s spring wild turkey season has wrapped up across most of the state, with Tuscarawas County hunters finishing strong.
State wildlife officials report more than 15,700 birds checked statewide through May 24, with the 83 counties in the south zone—including Tuscarawas County—now officially closed for the season.
Tuscarawas hunters accounted for 433 turkeys this spring – up from 418 a year ago.
Tuscarawas sits in second place statewide. Ashtabula County has pulled ahead with 455 birds—and that number could still climb. Hunting remains open in the five counties in Ohio’s northeast zone, including Ashtabula, through the end of May.
State officials say the overall harvest is slightly above the three-year average for recent seasons.
