Tuscarawas County Rockets hoop it up at the Friendship games

It was an exciting day of basketball as the Rockets Silver and White teams travelled to Columbus to participate in the 39th Annual Friendship Games.

The Rockets Silver team will compete in Division 1 this season.  They defeated the Columbus Comets 53-39.  Leading all scorers was Matthew Medley with 27 points.  He also added 15 rebounds, 12 steals, and 6 assists.  Dorian Wilson added 17 points, 18 rebounds, 7 steals, and 1 assist.  Carter McConnell chipped in 5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals for the Rockets.  Chris Wernert had 2 points and 7 rebounds, while Allison Halsey also put up 2 points and 4 rebounds for the Rockets.  Steve Hazelip grabbed 3 rebounds for the Rockets.  CJ Jefferson led the Comets with 12 points.  Willie Chambers had 10 rebounds and 2 assists.

The Rockets White team will compete in Division 5 this season.  They lost to a Columbus Comets combined team by a score of 53-27.  Craig Gordon led the Rockets with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Matthew Toole added 3 points and had 12 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists.  Leah Hughes put up 3 points and grabbed 3 rebounds for the Rockets as well, while Conner DiGenova had 2 points, 2 assists, and 1 steal.  Tyler Ross scored 3 points and pulled down 4 rebounds, and Aaron Scott had 2 points and 5 boards for the Rockets.

Rockets Silver travels to Stark Public Monday night for another game.  Both teams will play their home openers on Wednesday at Strasburg High School starting at 7 p.m.  Rockets Silver and Rockets Maroon will also host a basketball invite on December 14th at Strasburg, with teams from across Ohio, starting at 12 p.m.  Admission to all games is free!
