NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 12, 2026) – Two employees with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office have been getting ongoing recognition for saving the life of an infant during a medical emergency.

911 Dispatcher Michelle Colvin and Deputy Sheriff Adam Shaw were presented with Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association Life Saving Awards after their quick actions helped revive an unresponsive baby at an apartment in Lawrence Township last month. Sheriff Orvis Campbell says the 911 call came into the Sheriff’s Office, where Colvin calmly provided CPR instructions to a family member while help was on the way.

Deputy Shaw arrived on scene in just 56 seconds, sprinted inside, and immediately took over CPR. An off‑duty Bolivar firefighter living nearby also rushed in to assist. After several rounds of CPR the infant began breathing on his own and was later transported to Aultman Hospital.

Campbell formally presented the awards last week during a ceremony at the Sheriff’s Office, attended by family members and local officials.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
