DOVER, Ohio (April 8, 2026) — Tuscarawas County residents will have this next opportunity later this month to safely and anonymously dispose of unwanted or unused medications during the county’s Spring Drug Takeback Event, scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will be held simultaneously at the county’s two hospitals:

  • Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, South Entrance, Dover (just off The Boulevard)
  • Trinity Health System Twin City Medical Center, main entrance, 819 N. 1st St., Dennison

Deputies from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office will be on site at both locations to accept medications for proper disposal. The program is completely confidential and anonymous; no identification or personal information will be requested.

Residents may bring both prescription and over‑the‑counter medications, whether expired or unused. Medications should be placed in a transparent plastic bag, either with or without their original containers. Those choosing to leave medications in original prescription bottles may black out the patient’s name on the label if desired.

Officials noted that used needles, liquid medications, and peroxide‑based medications will not be accepted during the event.

The Drug Takeback Event provides a safe and responsible way to dispose of medications that should not be kept in medicine cabinets or household drawers. Proper disposal helps prevent medications from falling into the wrong hands, reduces the risk of misuse or theft, protects children, and minimizes environmental harm by keeping pharmaceutical substances out of wastewater systems and groundwater.

The event is a cooperative effort involving the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Empower Tusc, and local healthcare partners.

For residents looking to clean out their homes while contributing to public safety and environmental protection, officials say the Spring Drug Takeback Event offers a simple and effective solution.
